This ice cream is so good, I think you will be making it a lot this summer!

Making this ice cream always brings back a lot of childhood memories for me… especially when I reminisce about watching cookie monster (from the Sesame Street kids’ show) chomp through his chocolate chip cookies and anything else nearby.

I really enjoyed Sesame Street as a kid, and I am sure a lot of you did too. Oh! By the way, according to the Smithsonian Magazine, Cookie Monster’s real name is Sid! Yup! Did you know that? Because I certainly didn’t know that!

All right let’s get to it!

Quick Note
Before you start making the ice cream, it is important that all your tool and ingredients are really cold.

I typically put my whisks, mixing bowls, whipping cream, condensed milk in the fridge for a few hours before making the ice cream.

How to Make Cookie Monster Ice Cream

We are going to start off by chopping up some cookies. I chopped up some chocolate chip cookies and some Oreos cookies. You can use whatever cookies you have on hand. I used some bear paws chocolate chip cookies and original Oreos. You could use chips ahoy, oatmeal cookies or any of your favorite cookies will do.

You could also use edible chocolate chip cookie dough instead of chocolate chip cookies…. the world is your oyster! Add in whatever feels right to you!

I initially thought about baking my own cookies, but then I thought – you know what? I’ll just make it really easy and we’ll just use store bought cookies. You can use freshly baked cookies if you prefer – obviously, you would have to let them cool first.

Chop up your cookies into little bite-sized pieces and then just set them aside.

Next, it is time to make the ice cream base -Yum!

You will need two bowls to make the ice cream base. You should be able to place the first bowl into the second bowl, with some space between the walls of the bowls (i.e. one bowl needs to the smaller than the other – with one bowl being able to fit into the other).

Add some crushed ice into the first (i.e bigger) bowl, and then place the second bowl into the first bowl.

Next, add the heavy whipping cream and bright blue food coloring into the cold bowl. Keep adding the blue food coloring until you get the shade of blue you like. Personally, one of the reasons my kids love this ice cream, is because it turns their tongues blue and gives them giggles all afternoon.

Add the heavy whipping cream and food coloring to the bowl

Using a hand mixer, whisk the heavy cream until soft peaks form. You could use a hand whisk to whisk this as well, but it would be a real work out for your arms.

Once you have soft peaks, it is time to add in the cold sweetened condensed milk.

Pour the sweetened condensed milk into the whipped cream and fold gently until just combined. You could add a splash of pure vanilla extract at this point, but I do not think it is necessary.

Next, it is time to add in your chopped cookies. Mix the chopped cookies gently into the ice cream – do not let them break or crumble too much while you fold them into the ice cream mixture.

Folding in the chopped cookies into the ice cream base

Once you have folded in your cookies, pour the cookie monster ice cream into freezer-safe bowls and freeze for at least 8 hours or overnight. You could also sprinkle some more chopped cookies over the ice cream before freezing it.

8 hours later (or overnight), bring the cookie monster icecream out of the freezer and enjoy!! There’s nothing quite like homemade icecream. It is creamier and more delicious, plus you get to decide what add-ons you want to include in your ice cream
