So back to the cranberry blueberry sauce recipe…

As you probably know, the traditional cranberry sauce is amazing as an accompaniment to a Thanksgiving or Christmas Turkey. Last Christmas I has some extra blueberries in the fridge, so I made the cranberry sauce with blueberries, orange juice, some orange zest with a touch of cinnamon and cloves. It tasted amazing!!!

I am convinced that you will love it! (Make sure you leave me a comment below if you try out this recipe)

Ingredients to make Cranberry Blueberry Sauce

All you really need for this quick delicious cranberry and blueberry sauce are:

  • Fresh Blueberries
  • Fresh Cranberries
  • Cinnamon
  • Ground cloves – spices added a certain depth and warmth to the sauce
  • Granulated Sugar – You could skip the sugar and use more natural sugars like honey or maple syrup. If you do, experiment by reducing the quantity of orange juice, or slightly increasing the cornstarch.
  • Cornstarch – Cornstarch will help thicken the sauce. You could leave out the cornstarch to make this a gluten-free recipe
  • Orange Zest – Orange zest adds a “citrusy” freshness to the sauce and balances out the flavors beautifully
  • Orange Juice

*If you are out of fresh berries, you could absolutely use frozen blueberries and cranberries instead.

How to make Cranberry Blueberry Sauce

Did I mention how easy this sauce is to make? Here are the steps to make the sauce

  1. Put all the ingredients in a saucepan and stir thoroughly until the cornstarch has dissolved
    reduce heat
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat, and stir continuously until the sauce thickens and the cranberries start to pop
  3. Once the sauce has thickened, pour it into a heat-safe bowl and let it come to room temperature

You can either enjoy it warm, at room temperature or cold. You could pair it with some turkey, lamb, crostini or some dinner rolls . (heck! You could, it eat it straight off your spoon if you like – it is that delicious! ).

How Long Does Homemade Cranberry Sauce Last?

Homemade cranberry sauce can last between 10-14 days in the fridge. Ensure that you store it in an airtight container, and cool it to room temperature before storing it in the fridge. You can enjoy it straight out of the fridge, or warm it slightly in the microwave prior to use.

Can you Freeze Homemade Cranberry Sauce?

Absolutely yes. Once your sauce is cooked and has come to room temperature, store it in a freezer- safe airtight container and freeze. The cranberry sauce will taste fresh for about 2 months, and will still taste amazing after a year. You can thaw the cranberry sauce overnight in the refrigerator or by using the thaw function on your microwave

I certainly hope you enjoy this cranberry blueberry sauce recipe!
